Day of Ashura

A day of victory and gratitude. It is on this day that Allah split the Red Sea for Musa (Moses) (عليه السلام) and saved the Children of Israel from the tyranny of Pharaoh. When our Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) arrived in Madinah and found the Jews fasting this day, he said, “We have more right to Musa than you,” and commanded us to fast it. Fasting the day of Ashura wipes away the minor sins of the past year. It serves as a timeless reminder that no matter how powerful the tyrant or how difficult the situation, Allah’s help is near for the believers.
